Lisa's kin follow psychic tip

Members of a Tofino Indian band were in Nanaimo Wednesday, searching the fringes of Harewood for the body of Lisa Young.

The 21-year-old Nanaimo woman went missing three weeks ago, on the Canada Day weekend. Police suspect foul play.

While police appear to have few new leads that might lead them to her, her relatives have not given up hope.

The young woman's grandfather, Moses Martin, a member of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation, was in Nanaimo Tuesday and Wednesday with members of the tribal council's search and rescue team.

"We're following up on some information passed on by a psychic," Martin said, at one of the search sites.

A Pennsylvanian psychic described an area of Nanaimo where Young's body would be found.

The Tla-o-qui-aht band members were beating the bushes Tuesday in the Northfield Creek area, and were searching an area just south of the Parkway near the Harewood Mines Road area Wednesday.

Asked if he gave the psychic's tips much credence, Martin shrugged and said, "We have to follow up on anything that we can get. We're all still hoping she's somewhere."

Police say Young was last seen leaving the Jungle Cabaret around 2 a.m. According to one report, she was seen getting into a burgundy Jaguar, sometime in the early morning of June 30.

Young was supposed to be starting a new job, and was about to move into a new apartment. She had money in her bank account, which has not been touched, and had not used her cellular phone, her grandfather said.

"All of that doesn't add up to very good news," Martin said.

Young wasn't the sort of person to leave without telling family, Martin said.

"She was quite close to her family, and was in close contact with them," he said.

Meanwhile, police appear to be no closer to solving the mystery of Young's disappearance, despite numerous tips.

"We've received well over 100 to 150 tips on the case," says Const. Jack Eubank of the Nanaimo RCMP. "Each of them is being followed up on as early as possible."

Anyone with information on Lisa Young is urged to call the RCMP at 754-2345, or Crime Stoppers, at 1-800-222-8477. Callers do not need to identify themselves, and may be eligible for a reward.
