City police continue search for Lisa Young

Four months after her mysterious disappearance, police continue to investigate what became of Lisa Young.

Cpl. Doug Hogg, with the Nanaimo RCMP serious crimes unit, said they have no new leads or information which they think may solve the mystery. He said they are continuing to follow up leads already given them.

"Things are progressing, albeit slowly," said Hogg.

Young was last seen on the Canada Day weekend. She was supposed to begin a new job July 2, and was to move into a new residence on July 1. But Young never showed up at her parents' home when her father was supposed to help her move, and never contacted her new employer.

They contacted police, who initiated a missing persons investigation. Within a week they concluded Young's disappearance was suspicious and asked for assistance from the public. Police identified a vehicle she was last seen in, and questioned the driver.

Young had worked at a number of downtown nightclubs, and was known to be a responsible person. She always called her parents when she to say if she would not be home when expected.

A number of weeks ago nearly two-dozen officers searched a rural area on the western edge of the city. It was apparent they were looking for a body. Hogg said they want to search another area north of the city, but have not been able to arrange the required number of officers to scour the brush.

Anyone with information is asked to Nanaimo RCMP or Crime Stoppers. Those who call Crime Stoppers may qualify for a reward, and are guaranteed anonymity. Information provided to Crime Stoppers is also never used as evidence in court.
