"Community marches for Lisa Young 20 years after she went missing in Nanaimo"

Today marked a sombre anniversary for those wanting to know what happened to Lisa Young, a missing Nanaimo woman. In June of 2002 the 21-year-old went missing. Sunday morning family, friends and community members once again walked in her memory but there is new hope with new information coming to light.

“Because it’s 20 years it feels like it’s even more important to try and get justice and to raise awareness and to get together,” said Cyndy Hall, who organized the march.

Among those taking part in the march are a pair of Nanaimo’s RCMP’s lead investigators in Lisa Young’s file who say they get new tips a few times each month.

“There are still people coming forward. None of that has broken the case wide open but it’s like putting together a big puzzle so every time someone comes in and talks to us and gives us a little bit more with that puzzle it helps us along,” said Cpl. Markus Muntener, with Nanaimo RCMP.

Lisa Marie Young was out at a bar with friends on June 30, 2002 before going to a house party. She left with a man in a Jaguar before calling a friend back at the party.

“She goes, 'Dallas I don’t know what’s going on. This guy won’t bring me back,'” recounted the late Dallas, in an interview with CHEK News in August 2002.

What happened then to Lisa is a mystery though investigators soon believe she met with foul play though they’ve never found her remains.

Just this week investigative journalist Laura Palmer released a new episode to her podcast called Where is Lisa? In it, she names and sheds new light on Chris Adair. He was driving the red Jaguar.

“Red Jag guy. That’s how I first think of Christopher William Adair when I begin researching his connection to Lisa Marie Young’s disappearance,” said Palmer at the beginning of the episode.

Adair was one of the last people known to be with Lisa the night she went missing. He’s been living outside of North America for years.

“I think it’s super important to learn about who was involved that night because it just paints the picture of what happened to Lisa and I think the more information we can get out to the public maybe people will realize they have information they didn’t know they had,” said Hall.

The City of Nanaimo has proclaimed today Justice for Lisa Marie Young day and June 30, the day she went missing, as Lights on for Lisa.

All those here hoping there will be more answers about what happened to Lisa before another annual march is planned.

You can listen to the new episode here.
