Billboard to keep search for Lisa alive

The effort to find out what became of Lisa Young will now take up a prominent place on the highway south of Nanaimo.

A local business owner who once employed Lisa, Paul Manhas, is donating a billboard near Petroglyph Park indefinitely. The billboard will feature photos of Lisa, a brief description of her, and phone numbers for her parents, Joanne and Don Young, and the RCMP.

Lisa Young disappeared on the July 1 long weekend last year and no information has surfaced since to indicate what became of her. RCMP serious crimes investigators are now waiting for information which could lead to lead to an arrest, said Const. Jack Eubank.

"We just don't have any new information at all," Eubank said. "Somebody out there knows, and we need to hear from them."

Joanne Young said she had called Manhas for any help he could give.

"I called Paul to ask about fund-raising ideas and he donated the billboard," she said.

Manhas said he was motivated to donate the billboard space also hoping it would get somebody to say something, as well as the hope that Lisa is still alive.

"It's something that's still a serious issue," Manhas said. "The hope is still there, so we're trying to exhaust all possibilities."

Lisa worked for Manhas at two of his nightclubs. She left the Jungle Cabaret, owned by Manhas, the night of June 30 in a maroon Jaguar, and was last seen in the Jingle Pot area. Manhas said the billboard appealing for information will remain as long as needed.

"We want to keep the hope alive, we hope someone will say something."

Anyone with information is asked call police at 754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. The Youngs can be reached at 758-2037.
