Still unsolved
Crime Stoppers has paved the way for the resolution of many crimes. Some, however, remain unsolved. One well-known local case of Lisa Marie Young, who would have turned 28 years old on Tuesday. Her disappearance remains the most notorious unsolved crime in Nanaimo. Young has not been seen since the Canada Day weekend in 2002. She was last seen in the early hours of June 30* with several other people in a maroon Jaguar driving away from a Nanaimo nightclub.
"Somebody knows something, we're patiently waiting for the day that someone comes forward," said Young's mother, Joanne Young. Earlier this year Crime Stoppers began working on a re-enactment of what is known about Lisa's final hours before her disappearance. Filming is expected to be wrapped up next week.
* Several publications misreported dates surrounding Lisa's disappearance (likely confused by the long weekend). Lisa's parents last saw her late Sunday June 30th, and she was last seen by her friends at the bar and at two parties early Monday July 1st (Canada Day), which was also the day she was to move into her new apartment, and when her disappearance was reported to RCMP.
