Dozens of people are participating in a 40 day exercise challenge in advance of what would have been a Nanaimo woman's 40th birthday.

Lisa Marie Young went missing in 2002 at the age of 21 after leaving a party with Christopher Adair in a Jaguar.

Nanaimo resident Cyndy Hall is organizing the event and she's been raising awareness about Young's case ever since Young's mother died.

"What keeps me motivated is Lisa, because she deserved much much more than what happened to her and honouring her with 40 days of fitness is just a small thing I can do," said Hall, who is among dozens of people who are taking part in the 40 days of exercise for Lisa.

Lisa's aunt Carol Martin is also taking part in Tofino.

"It brings motivation to a lot of people and with myself, it pushes me to keep going forward in a positive way," said Martin.

The fitness challenge comes on the heels of new developments in the case.

In December police searched a Nanaimo Lakes Road property in relation to the investigation.

There's also a new podcast episode in a series about Young's disappearance with a source close to the investigation.

"In the podcast, he takes me to the place he believes Lisa perished. A place we now know police have recently searched," said Laura Palmer, who has published 10 episodes about Lisa's disappearance called Where's Lisa.

Hall says she knows many tips have been coming into police and she's hopeful the mystery of what happened to Young may soon be solved.

"I feel in my gut that we are getting a lot closer to finding Lisa. I just want to say if you know what happened to Lisa or you have a tape of what happened to Lisa please come forward because we need people to come forward right now with information," said Hall.

Police would only say Wednesday that the investigation into Young's disappearance remains very active.
