'Happy birthday, Lisa'

The investigation into the death of Lisa Young may not be active at this time, but it will never close until police determine conclusively what happened to the Nanaimo woman.

Saturday, a service was held in honour of Lisa's birthday, which is May 5. She would be turning 23. Lisa has been missing since June 30, 2002. While officially she is missing, police believe she met with foul play.

Joanne Young, Lisa's mother, said the event Saturday at the Unity Church in Nanaimo was "awesome."

"We sang Happy Birthday to Lisa and released some balloons," she said.

Local chanteuse Allison Crowe also sang Lisa's Song, a tribute she penned to Lisa Young. A T-shirt bearing Lisa's photo was also worn by a number of people. Anyone interested in buying one of the shirts can reach Joanne Young by email, at ryoung@shaw.ca
