Search for Lisa Young continues
Family and friends of missing 21-year-old Lisa Young are asking the public to ignore rumours that her body has been found.
Caroline Hunt, a former foster-sister of Young, said she had another call at about 7 a.m. Monday saying Young's body was found in Lantzville.
"I've probably had 15 calls about it," said Hunt.
Last week, Const. Jack Eubank, with the Nanaimo RCMP said the rumour surfaced on some chat sites on the Internet. Rumours also claim a body was found in Ladysmith.
Young went missing on the Canada Day weekend after leaving a downtown bar. There is no indication the young woman has run off. Eubank said Monday there have been no new developments in the investigation, which remains a missing person's case although foul play is suspected.
But Hunt said the result of misinformation has led to at least one prank call from an apparently deranged individual to a third foster sister.
The caller pretended to be Hunt with information about Lisa's body being found.
"People are playing really harsh jokes," she said. "Me and my foster sister are in hiding because everyone keeps calling."
Hunt also said that many of the posters they've put on the waterfront and in the south end of town have been torn down. The posters have a picture of Lisa, and other relevant information.
Police are also repeating their request for help from the public.
Anyone with information about Young's whereabouts is asked to call police, at 754-2345, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Callers to Crime Stoppers never have to identify themselves and may qualify for a reward.
