Summary

RCMP told Lisa's mother to hug the man with whom Lisa was last seen.

Detail

[Adair is] being held in Saskatchewan awaiting trial on a charge of assaulting a police officer.
Vancouver Province, September 2, 2002 (Jason Proctor)[1]

When Adair was being questioned in by Nanaimo RCMP at the Parksville RCMP detachment (July 23, 2002), Lisa's mother was brought in and asked to hug him.[1]

In the interrogation room there was a whiteboard with a photo of Lisa, and only three words written:[1][2]

  • Rape
  • Murder
  • Accident

When Joanne directly asked Adair where Lisa was, he said "I can't... I'm sorry, I don't mean to disrespect your family...", and then trailed off.[3]

"Who does that? How does this happen? This is an outrageous case!"
House of Commons, October 8, 2020 (MP Paul Manly)[2]

Member of Parliament Paul Manly later described this incident to the House of Commons in Ottawa, exclaiming: "This is outrageous! Who does that?"[2]
