This category contains articles and images related to Makayla Chang, who in March 2017 at age 16 was murdered in Nanaimo by 58-year-old Steven Bacon.

In the early hours of March 17, 2017, Steven strangled Makayla to death and asked a friend to help him dispose of her body in a shallow grave at Colliery Dam Park.

Over the next five days, Steven pretended to be Makayla, using her phone and Facebook account to communicate with friends and family, before reporting her missing to the RCMP on March 22. The following morning, he left Nanaimo by ferry and hitchhiked across Canada.

Police found Makayla's body two months later. Steven was arrested the following year in New Brunswick. He pled guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison.

Unconfirmed reports claim that Steven had repeatedly commented that Lisa's unresolved case demonstrated that it would be possible to "outsmart police" and "get away with murder." Colliery Dam Park was heavily rumoured to be Lisa's burial location, which may be why Steven chose the park to bury Makayla.

In January 2020, RCMP inadvertently revealed that they suspected a connection between Makayla's case and Lisa's unresolved case.
