Muntener has been employed by the RCMP since at least 2011 when he was a Constable in Surrey and — along with several senior officers — was in September 2011 commended for "outstanding performance in the investigation" into a homicide unsolved from 10 years earlier.[4]

By 2013, Muntener became a Corporal and shared another award, this time for "outstanding service in the conduct of a robbery investigation which began on June 7, 2012 in Surrey.[5]

Salary

As of 2022, about 1 in 8 RCMP members is a Corporal. A tenured Corporal receives a salary of $9,725/month ($116,703/year) plus benefits.[6]

After 10 years of service, a member receives 25 paid vacation days per year.[6]

Muntener is a father and husband. All RCMP officers are entitled to 9 months of paid parental leave for each child born.[6]

Commander, Gabriola Island RCMP

CHEK News, June 26, 2021 (Nicholas Pescod)[7]

In 2013, Muntener was offered a position of Detachment Commander[8] of the Gabriola Island detachment[9] (5km east of Nanaimo, a 25-minute ferry ride).

Between 2013 and 2016, Muntener was mentioned in a handful of Gabriola Island police-related media stories[10] including stolen boats[11] and credit cards,[12].

Muntener was also interviewed after an arrest for a gas station fight unexpectedly resulted in an 11-gram methamphetamine seizure. Muntener described the bust as "the largest seizure of crystal meth they’ve ever made."[13] Eleven grams (0.01 kg) of meth has a "street value" of approximately $440.[14]

There was an unpublicized connection between two cases with which Commander Muntener was involved.

Termination of Commander role

Nanaimo Bulletin, May 12, 2016 [15]

The final media mention of Muntener's role as Detachment Commander was in a May 12, 2016 article about his involvement in the charges against Douglas Green.

After that point, there is no further mention of Muntener in any media stories – seemingly leading to an absence from police work of over 4 years — until 2020 when he resurfaced at the Nanaimo detachment, as role of Lead Investigator on the case of the disappearance of Lisa Marie Young.

The earliest mention of Muntener's involvement in Lisa Marie Young's case was June 24, 2020, when he was interviewed by former CBC executive Laura Palmer for her podcast "Island Crime", the first season of which was centred around Lisa's disappearance.

That interview occurred within a month of the podcast's initial release, and 20 days after Lisa's cousin, Chantel Moore, was murdered by an RCMP officer during a "wellness check".

In a 2022 media interview, it was stated that Muntener had been assigned to Lisa's case since 2018, although there is no other documentation indicating any involvement prior to 2020.

Since his assignment to Lisa's case, there is no mention of Muntener's involvement in any other police work outside of Lisa's case.

Search of 827 Nanaimo Lakes Road

After the huge popularity of the Island Crime podcast about Lisa's disappearance, Nanaimo RCMP faced mounting pressure from the public about the lack of progress in Lisa's case.

In December 2020, Muntener's team performed a search of the property at 827 Nanaimo Lakes Road.
